MOSCOW, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday denied media reports that Russia planned to block a draft resolution of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Myanmar.

Earlier on Thursday, Russian daily newspaper Izvestia quoted unnamed diplomats as saying that Russia would prevent the approval of the resolution overtly critical of the Myanmar authorities, which had been prepared by France and Britain.
Zakharova said that the Franco-British draft contained "a series of problematic points, which in particular do not correspond fully to the reality of Rakhine state (in southwest Myanmar) and reflect inadequately the efforts of interested parties aimed at curtailing the crisis there."
A UN spokesman said Wednesday that the number of Rohingya refugees fleeing Myanmar into Bangladesh since Aug. 25 has reached 604,000.

She also said that the situation in Rakhine state, from which hundreds of thousands of Muslims had fled to neighboring Bangladesh, was improving with the Myanmar authorities assisted by foreign countries and international organizations taking steps to settle the crisis.
"The work on the draft continues. And I want to stress that we are ready for a constructive discussion of further steps of the UNSC on this issue," the foreign ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a news briefing.
